  • Rated 5 out of 5 by from No fumbling with key We just had a Trane heat pump installed with smart thermostat. After hours of research, we decided to use this Kwikset 909, Lifetime Brass, because of 1. Kwikset customer service, support, and warranty 2. Customer Reviews, and 3. Lowes nearby had the 909 in atock. I looked at a video installation on YouTube (really helpful ), read the instructions, and laid out the parts. This made for a simple install EXCEPT our door and hardware were old and the deadbolt did not fit properly into the door edge. So, I had about half hour extra work chiseling carefully to make a perfect fit. Looks and works great. Remember to get in, you need to press the unlock button before entering the code or you will have to use your key to enter. We also bought and installed a Kwikset Polo entry knob as insurance against not being able to lock the 909. It was $14.97 at Lowes and simple to install. Also, Lowes rekeyed the Polo entry knob to work with the 909 smartlock.

Started with only one in the front door but it was not only attractive but easier for us to lock and open rather than fumbling around for keys. No more added expenses of replacing locks and making copies of keys because friends, relatives, house and pet sitters don't always remember where they put our keys and/or never return the keys. What an attractive and cost effective addition to our home.

  • The button backlight feature does not work. How do I program that?

    Hi Tim1301, The backlit keypad will only turn on when a button is pressed on the keypad and will go off automatically after a few seconds of no activity on the keypad. There are no programming steps for the backlight on the keypad. This function should work as soon everything is connected and the batteries were inserted. If the light doesn't turn when you press a button on the keypad then something is wrong, please call us to troubleshoot your lock further at 1-800-327-5625. We hope to hear from you soon.     I bought a smartcode 909 lock, stainless steel looking model. The exterior assembly appears to be missing a keeper clip on the back of part W. The key cylinder will not stay in the lock assembly, part W.

    The install was pretty straight forward however when I go to set a user code it wont work.  I press the program button as the instructions say.  However after pressing it three times it starts beeping with red lights before I get to the 4th press.

    Do I have to press the lock button every time I change the batteries? The lock works well at this point and don't think it needs realignment.

    How do we get the extension/service kit for thick doors? ( 2 1/4 inch ) as quickly as possible- ? For the Smartcode 909 model in venetian bronze

    Why would my lock suddenly start automatically locking itself? The time from when it is unlocked and when the decides to lock itself varies but seems to be about 30 seconds. Is this some configurable feature I've accidentally discovered?

    Hello LocksNCreamCheese, Thank you for taking the time to contact us. This model comes with 30-second auto-lock feature by the switch # 2 being in the “ON” position. Please replace the batteries with new ones and making sure that you use Alkaline batteries. Please perform the following troubleshooting steps: 1, Start with removing the battery pack. 2, Remove the interior side panel to access the wired cable. 3, Please check to be sure that the wire and cable are completely connected and not pinched. 4, Please unplug them, leave them unplugged for 10 seconds and then plug them in again. 5, Please be sure that they are tucked carefully in at the bottom of the lock as noted in the installation guide. 6, Press and HOLD the Program button while reinserting the battery pack. Continue to hold the Program button for 30 seconds, until the lock beeps and the status LED flashes red. 7, Press and release the program button once more. When the status LED flashes green and you will hear one beep, the lock has been reset. 8, Perform the handing process for the latch to extend and retract with the door in the open position. 9, Test the lock.     Can I change the length of the auto lock feature to less than 30 seconds?
