 How do I update the firmware on my smart lock using the Kwikset App?

New Lock Installation: Firmware updates are included as part of the lock activation process for any new lock. During the Add Lock process, after completing lock installation, continue with the lock setup. Follow the prompts in the app to update the firmware to the latest version.



Update an Existing Lock: When a firmware update is available for existing locks, and when the user is within Bluetooth range of the lock,
    Option 1: “Firmware Update Available” prompt will appear on the app Dashboard. Click “UPDATE NOW” to proceed with updating the firmware to the latest version.

Note: Once the update has started:

  1. Do not turn off your phone during the update.
  2. Keep your phone near the lock with the app open until the process is complete.

REMIND ME LATER: The “Firmware Update" Option will appear in the lock settings page under the Utility section. This option will remain visible until the firmware update is completed. To proceed with the update, click on the Firmware Update option and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

Firmware Update – Prerequisites:

  1. Phone Battery: Ensure the phone battery is at least 20%
  2. Lock Battery: The lock’s battery should be at least 40%.
  3. Bluetooth: Bluetooth must be enabled on the phone, and the phone should be close to the lock.
  4. Lock Pairing: The lock must be paired with the phone’s Bluetooth.
    • After the initial lock setup, the phone is paired with the lock. However, if the pairing has been removed or you are using a new phone with the same Kwikset account, re-pairing is required.
    • When pairing is available, a pairing screen will appear in the app. If you accidentally cancel this screen, log out and log back into the app to view it again.
    • Click “START PAIRING” and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the pairing process.
