I called Kwikset warranty and after walking me through possible steps to fix it sent me a brand new one! Overall I think it's a pretty good lock and great customer service.

    why did the lock develop a click when I tried to set the door handing? the click will not go away and I can't set it for use.

    Hello g8rgumdoc, The clicking means the mounting plate is placing tension on the torque blade. Remove the interior assembly from the mounting plate, loosen the screws on the mounting plate and reposition the plate, so there is no tension on the cylinder torque blade. Next, align the turn piece with the torque blade and reinstall the interior assembly on the door. Lastly, perform the door handing steps to correct the orientation of the bolt.
