  • Rated 5 out of 5 by from ATTRACTIVE AND EASY TO INSTALL The Deadbolt is very attractive and modern looking. It seems to be very durable and well made. Installing the lock was pretty simple. Instructions were easy to understand and straight forward. The only issue I had was with the back cover. It was a little difficult to install because the third screw was on the bottom of the unit and it was hard to install because of the existing door handle. This could cause problems over time when you have to take the cover off to make changes. A great feature by Kwikset is the ability to re-key the lock so that I am able to use our existing key. It only takes a few minutes to re-key the lock. Programming the codes were easy and being able to add up to 16 codes makes it a great feature for guests and workers to be able to gain access when needed. The only issue is that you have to remove the back cover to make changes. The operation of the lock was smooth and quiet. A great improvement from my older version of this deadbolt. I like the idea of having to punch random numbers before putting in your code. This is an added security feature. Having said that it took a little while to get used to having to touch the keypad in order for it to light up. Then you have to punch in the numbers. A couple of times I had to touch the keypad several times before I could get it to light up. This could be an inconvenience especially if you are in a hurry. Something you just have to get use to. The auto lock feature is great but I cannot use it because you have to hold my door closed due to the weather stripping. The LED lighted numbers make it easy to see even in full sunlight. I cannot comment on how long the unit will operate on the 4 AA batteries. The batteries in my old unit are good for about six months. Time will tell. Overall the lock is well made and sturdy. Kwikset products are durable and they have great customer service when you need to talk to someone. I highly recommend the Smartcode 915 Deadbolt

Rated 5 out of 5 by from As nicely functional as it is attractive Aesthetics and Quality: The unit is very attractive both indoors and outdoors, presenting black panels on each side. The satin nickel seems to be quality plating. Not only is it attractive to look at, but the quality of construction and assembly is outstanding. It should be very durable. The black panel on the inside of the house is non-functional and only decorative. Installation: No problem at all. The instructions are straightforward with clear illustrations. I replaced a conventional Kwikset deadbolt so it wasn’t necessary to replace the bolt itself and everything was together and working in a matter of minutes. A great feature of Kwiksets is the incredibly easy re-keying. That takes about 15 seconds and can be changed to a different key, on all the doors, very quickly. Programming: Easy, clear, and flexible. Multiple codes can be programmed to unlock, so someone can use a “secondary” code which can later be removed. Operation: Extremely smooth and quiet, almost silent, and much better than a previous generation we have on another door. An exceptionally nice feature is the generation of two random numbers on the outside display when preparing to unlock the door. This prevents someone from seeing where unlock sequence fingerprints are by having fingerprints over all the numbers. Personalization: DIP switches control four on/off features: Status LED, Auto Lock after 30 seconds, Audio (beep), and the generation of random numbers prior to entering the unlock code. The Auto Lock feature is fantastic, with limitations. There’s no forgetting to lock the door because it can be set to lock itself after 30 seconds. Because the DIP switches are inside the mechanism, the cover has to be removed to change the Auto Lock. When having a gathering of people not all arriving at the same time, Auto Lock is a nuisance and tedious to change. An external button to override the Auto Lock for such occasions would be an excellent addition. If this button had an LED associated with it the light would be a reminder that the Auto Lock was overridden. Suggestions for future versions: A Wi-Fi connected camera along with an Android app to see who is at the door. Even more useful, the ability to unlock the door from the Android app and/or a microphone and speaker for remote conversation with a caller via the phone. Older users with less mobility would find these additional features very valuable. I’m aware of some Apple compatibility, but it seems more people who would want or need the security of such a lockset are Android phone users. Summary: An excellent product with the potential to be even more versatile in future versions, just as this one has done compared with previous versions. I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice design We have a second home where we had another keypad lock installed and decided to install the .. lock there. Unpacking the lock was easy, though the main mechanism seemed be rather loose in the box but unharmed in any way. Installing the new lock was very easy. The one piece that is somewhat unexpected is how the back cover attaches to the lock body. Under the cover is where the program button and the batteries are located. The cover must be screwed on for normal operation. This means adding new codes or replacing batteries will require removing this cover which is rather inconvenient. The back cover itself has a black plastic section that looks like it could be removed, but there is a screw locking it in place from the inside. The black plastic piece will move slightly if you press on it which would give you the impression it opens, which it doesn't due to that screw. Someone unfamiliar with this may break the plastic attempting to open it. We appreciate the ability to re-key the lock to use the same key we had before. That part of the lock works exactly as before. The default behavior of the keypad displays a random 2 digit code you have to touch before you can enter your own code. According to the instructions this is to help obscure fingerprints that would clue someone into frequently used digits. While interesting this is the first thing we disabled. While idea is interesting it is kind of annoying. It also so happens that our home is in a pretty secure gated community so the extra layer of security is not that important to us. The keypad is nice and works like one would expect. Normally its dark but waking it up is easy enough.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Customer Care I have 3 of these locks, After about a year, two of the screens on the touch pad cracked. I contacted customer service and they quickly responded. Within a short period of time I was sent replacement looks, These are easy to use and very convenient.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Touch pad numbers that disappear when not in use I bought the deadbolt lockset a month ago and have enjoyed my wife not complaining she could not use it. The lockset fit the existing holes and the deadbolt slides and locks open and closed smoothly with ease. There is no question if it is locked as it clicks into place when locking. The only drawback I have noticed is in the morning the sun is directly on the faceplate ant it heats up making it less responsive to touch until it cools down.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sleek, Beautiful & Functional I love this lock. It was really easy to install. The instructions were easy to follow. I love the fact that I can manage the lock codes of everyone in my family. I can set new codes and delete old ones with in less than 5 minutes. This lock also allows me to go for a walk around the neighborhood with out having to take my keys. Despite all the great features there is one thing that I'd like to change. There is a delay when pressing the keypad. So if your in a hurry to get inside, you might not get in as quickly as you would have hoped. The Keypad sometimes take a moment to recognize a person's touch. Also I don't have a way of managing this lock via an Android phone. My hopes are the app will be available soon. Nonetheless, I love my new lock. **This lock was provided to me by Kwikset. All opinions are my own.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Modern, contemporary I like the design of this lock, simple aesthetics, easy set up, nice features. I had it installed in maybe ten minutes. Completed the set up with all codes and features in maybe another five. I like the touchscreen on this model. I have another model without, and this requires a much lighter touch. Which is nice for others who use it. Probably my favorite feature is the fire resistance rating. I have one fire door, which is where this lock is installed. Initially I set this to lock automatically, but we decided that that the factory 30 second setting was too short a time. I would like to see a feature where maybe I could set a switch for maybe 30, 60, or 90 seconds before it locks. That seems more ideal. I think with all the features, settings, ease of installation and use, it is this 30 second autolock that prevents me from giving a full 5 stars overall.
