    Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good and user friendly lock I purchased this for my apartment door. It's nice. It looks great. And, the functions are simple. After about a year, there was a mechanical issue which wouldn't allow the electronics to function, so I was forced to open it with a key. I contacted customer support, and even though the electronics warranty had expired, they extended it, so I could get a replacement! I was really impressed. So, while it was a hassle to replace the lock again, it was just fine because Kwikset's customer service was world class. Thanks.

A problem came up but one phone call and we had what we needed being sent at no charge! Their customer service is top notch in identifying the problem and efficiently handling the correction! This lock has made carrying a key obsolete and is a nice looking upgrade!

  • Just installed the Kwikset SmartCode 913 SmartKey deadbolt. Worked fine the first couple of times we tried it. Now the automatic lock will not extend the cylinder to lock the door. It feels like it is "hanging up" on something. Can you help?

    Hello Helen 66224, The mounting plate is placing tension on the torque blade. Remove the interior assembly from the mounting plate, loosen the screws on the mounting plate and reposition the plate so there is no tension on the cylinder torque blade. Due to temperature changes and humidity, doors can become ‘warped’. This is common and more likely for older doors. More friction means that the motor needs to work harder to lock your door, so your battery life may be impacted.     How long to do 4AA batteries last on the #913 generally?

    Hello Don Carlo, Battery life is estimated at 1 year based on 10 uses per day. Make sure that the deadbolt and strike are aligned properly so that there is no unnecessary resistance, as this will make the motor work harder to lock/unlock and will drain the batteries more quickly. Also, make sure that you use all new batteries and not a combination of new and used batteries.     My door lock worked when I first put it in. I took it off to paint door and now it won't work. The status light stays red. What can I do

    I have a house built in 1985 equiped entirely with kwikset deadbolts & handles. They’re all drive-in latches. I’d like to upgrade to 913 & smartkey handles...do I still need to order new drive-in latches?

    Is the keypad suppose to be lit
