  • Rated 5 out of 5 by from No fumbling with key We just had a Trane heat pump installed with smart thermostat. After hours of research, we decided to use this Kwikset 909, Lifetime Brass, because of 1. Kwikset customer service, support, and warranty 2. Customer Reviews, and 3. Lowes nearby had the 909 in atock. I looked at a video installation on YouTube (really helpful ), read the instructions, and laid out the parts. This made for a simple install EXCEPT our door and hardware were old and the deadbolt did not fit properly into the door edge. So, I had about half hour extra work chiseling carefully to make a perfect fit. Looks and works great. Remember to get in, you need to press the unlock button before entering the code or you will have to use your key to enter. We also bought and installed a Kwikset Polo entry knob as insurance against not being able to lock the 909. It was $14.97 at Lowes and simple to install. Also, Lowes rekeyed the Polo entry knob to work with the 909 smartlock.

Great convenience and great dependability. When our lastest one had something go wrong after a couple of months, Kwikset was quick to replace it with a new one, great service too.

And they sent us a new one can ask for any more than that great product. We bought a another one to put on our sons house we are setting up as an assisted living residence.

Started with only one in the front door but it was not only attractive but easier for us to lock and open rather than fumbling around for keys. No more added expenses of replacing locks and making copies of keys because friends, relatives, house and pet sitters don't always remember where they put our keys and/or never return the keys. What an attractive and cost effective addition to our home.

  • Purchased a home with this unit. Followed instructions for factory reset to delete old codes, performed door handing, tried new codes but continues to keep old code and is not removing it. Help

    Hello Elton T, We’re sorry to hear of the difficulty you are experiencing with your lockset. Please perform the following steps: 1, Start with removing the battery pack. 2, Remove the interior side panel to access the wired cable. 3, Please check to be sure that the wire and cable are completely connected and not pinched. 4, Please unplug them, leave them unplugged for 10 seconds and then plug them in again. 5, Please be sure that they are tucked carefully in at the bottom of the lock as noted in the installation guide. 6, Press and HOLD the Program button while reinserting the battery pack. Continue to hold the Program button for 30 seconds, until the lock beeps and the status LED flashes red. 7, Press the program button once more. When the status LED flashes green and you will hear one beep, the lock has been reset. 8, Perform the handing process for the latch to extend and retract with the door in the open position. 9, Test the lock.     new batteries (twice) and the buttons do not light up anymore. any ideas as to what if any I can do to fix? its less tha n6 months old.....

    I have had my lock 6 months and all of a sudden it won’t do anything. Tried new batteries and nothing. I also never got notification of low batteries either.

    Is the keypad supposed to light up when the buttons are pressed?

    The low voltage light still comes on after replacing the batteries.

    I have a 909 smartcode. Got new plastic exterior door. The new door hole is not deep enough. Bolt stops and beeps. Can change the depth of the bolt travel? can't drill deeper in plastic door.

    Hi martywgwg, The bolt on the Kwikset 909 Smartcode has a 1" throw when extended fully. It will require the same depth to accommodate the bolt in the fully extended position, otherwise, it will not function properly. I hope this helps answer your question. Sincerely, Kwikset Support Team

    When replacing the batteries do you have to folllow all of the steps in #5 of the instllation instructions or can you just replace the batteries?

    Hello Mscott, Thank you for taking the time to contact us. In order to change the batteries for this model you will remove the battery cover on the interior side by unthreading the cover screws. Then slide the cover off per step 4A and then remove the battery pack per 4B. Make sure to use the recommended Alkaline batteries only and non-rechargeable. Insert the battery pack and slide the cover back on the interior side panel.
