Newman’s No. 31 Chevrolet to feature Kwikset for
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kansas Speedway Race on May 10
LAKE FOREST, Calif. (May 6, 2014) – Kwikset®, a leading brand of the Hardware and Home Improvement (HHI) division of Spectrum Brands Holdings (NYSE:SPB), will debut a brand new paint scheme for Richard Childress Racing (RCR) driver Ryan Newman’s No. 31 Chevrolet for the May 10 running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway. The paint scheme is part of Kwikset’s season-long partnership with the 15-time NASCAR championship racing organization.
“Our sponsorship of Ryan’s No. 31 car has been a great success this year for Kwikset and Richard Childress Racing,” said Greg Gluchowski, president, HHI. “It has provided us with a national platform to showcase our unprecedented Kevo smart lock and SmartKey technologies. We look forward to being Ryan’s primary sponsor on May 10.”
The partnership between Kwikset and Newman is a natural one, as the driver and leader in residential locks both share a passion for innovative technology and advanced engineering. On the hood of the car, Kwikset will promote its new smart lock Kevo, an industry-first Bluetooth-enabled deadbolt that allows authorized users to unlock their door with the touch of a finger while their smartphone remains in their pocket. Kwikset is also the company behind first-of-its-kind SmartKey Re-Key Technology, which lets homeowners re-key their locks in seconds without removing them from the door. Kwikset SmartKey locks also offer superior pick resistance and pass the most stringent security standards.
“My team and I are passionate about security and innovation, so having Kwikset as a sponsor is a natural alignment,” said Newman. “Along with technology, the company has an eye for design, and the paint scheme they created will look great under the lights at Kansas Speedway.”
Kwikset sees great opportunity in NASCAR, a sport that aligns with Kwikset’s values, and consistently looks for ways to engage with NASCAR’s passionate fan base. This is the second consecutive season that the leader in home security has sponsored an RCR team and created a Kwikset-branded paint scheme for a Sprint Cup Series race.
Newman, nicknamed “Rocket Man,” has had a successful NASCAR career and is currently ranked ninth in the Sprint Cup Series point standings heading into this Saturday night’s 400-mile race at Kansas Speedway. In his 15 years as a Cup driver, he has achieved 17 victories and more than 185 top-10s, and was named NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year in 2002 and Driver of the Year in 2003. Newman has won two of the sport’s most prestigious events, the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway in 2008, and the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2013. He’s also finished a career best of sixth in the final NASCAR Sprint Cup Series standings three times.
