without removing it from the door. Using the specially designed learn tool along with the current
functioning key, you can re-key the lock in 3 easy steps in under 30 seconds allowing you to use
any alternate set of Kwikset keys for temporary access. Or, if you just want all the keyed locks
around the house to match, SmartKey is an easy alternative to hiring a locksmith. Re-key yourself
in 3 easy steps:
- Insert a functioning key and turn it clockwise.
- Insert the Learn Tool into the slot above the key to reset the lock mechanism, then remove the tool and key.
- Insert the new key and turn it counterclockwise.
Additional re-key kits can be purchased at your local home improvement store.
The SmartKey Reset Cradle is a tool used by trained professionals to repair a SmartKey cylinder that has
been programmed incorrectly. An incorrectly programmed cylinder will not turn in either direction.
Simply remove the lock from the door, remove the SmartKey cylinder plug, insert it into the reset
cradle, and the cradle will reset the cylinder to learn a new key. The Reset Cradle is a must have
for landlords or locations where there is a high possibility of lost keys. Some local home improvement
stores also carry a reset cradle to assist homeowners.
