    Rated 2 out of 5 by from Incomplete installation instructions I purchased this product to install in my home's front door. The home is 34 years old and the current front door lock does not have a bolt with a flange and 2 screws. The instructions show both types of bolts but only the flanged bolt is provided and there is no instructions within the packaging about what to do. I finally found on the Kwikset website that I am supposed to contact Kwikset (only normal office hours and not weekends or nights) and ask for this bolt. If it is not sent free to me then I will take the item back and buy something else. I think the outside of the box should indicate that the other bolt will have to be obtained later and is not inside the box.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what every home should have as a standard! Our builder provided a standard lock with keys for the main entrance. We tend to often use the entrance through the garage and one day while at work, the wife managed to lock herself out. She ended up walking 2 miles to pick up our spare keys and I didn't want that to happen again. So, I bought the Kwikset - Smartcode 913 and installation as well as reprogramming the deadbolt to use our existing keys was a breeze. I've had this deadbolt for about 6 months now and can't be happier. I love that it automatically locks itself in 30 seconds and the ability to set codes for visitors. Overall, it is a great buy and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a similar product.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shocked at how easy it is! I bought this unit while it was on sale to see how it would work. To be honest, I don't know if I would have purchased it if it wasn't on sale. I got it home and installed it on our dark oak front door. It was a breeze to install and I was very shocked at how simple it was to program. Everyone at our home (4 of us) has easy access to enter the house without having to fumble for keys in the dark (it lights up at night!). I actually went back and bought more even after the sale was over and put them on other doors and on my rental house! Excellent product!

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from One Great Lock To Have We made this purchase for both security and easy access to our new condo.It was very easy to program our user codes, and add some friends in with there own code.My wife likes the feature of the self locking after she enters our home,To explain this ... its easy .When she would come home use her code to unlock the door, it would let her enter and after entrée, a short time later the lock would self lock.Feeling secure that no one can sneak in with her back turned while putting grocery's or what ever away.Also using the smart key system we were able to set all of our locks to the same key.This makes it so much easier not having to carry 3 different keys and fumbling to find which key opens what door.All and all Its a great system and glad we made this purchase

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from just what the doctor ordered i built a home in baja mexico and found we go to the market daily. everything comes in plastic bags here and carrying 6 bags up 18 stairs to the front door, putting bags down to dig around for a key to open the door, was becoming a real drag. did some research and presto came up with this fantastic product that has the 4 things i was looking for. ease of use, design, functionality and price. this baby does it all. it looked so good that i added brushed aluminium to my front door, inside and out, to turn it into a work of art. initially had a problem getting it synchronised. called customer service and presto, sent me a new unit, no questions asked. best customer service ever! found that the problem was me and offered to send the new unit back. was told no, just keep it. now my housekeeper has a kwikset smartcode too.looks and works fantastic and batteries last years . while it might not change your life, it will become like a trusted member of the family. even taught my cat how to use it but he keeps forgetting the code. seriously, it's that good!!

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice, Effective I bought this for a new door between our garage and house.Given that this is our primary point of entry and we often have family visit, as well the need for occasional house sitters, pet sitters... Using a code instead of a key (that some have lost...) was an obvious choice.I've installed a plethora of other Kwikset locks, this was just as simple. Programming codes was just as simple as the installation. I like that this has a Master Code option as well as the ability to opt for autolock.

    Rated 2 out of 5 by from Never worked I bought the Smartcode 913 and it took me almost a year to install and when I finally tried, it wouldn't light up. I finally diagnosed that the tab in the battery pack was missing so no way for the lock to be energized. Luckily I was under the year warranty and received a new lock. Once I installed this lock, the automatic locking feature would not work so basically I have $150 mechanical deadbolt installed. Seems strange to receive to defective products.

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Fit and Finish, Not sure about internals Purchased this deadbolt for the features and I like the look of it so far. Installation simple enough completed that rather easy. Have an issue with the connector and where it fits into the inside piece, I feel its a bit big and its not allowing the motor completely unlock and lock the door. Lock works perfectly manually with the key but that's not what I bought it for.. Was planning to replace to more locks. Questioning my decision

  • Just bought the 913 and how do I turn off automatic lock? Everytime we go in and out of the house, it locks! We might be in and out of the house 10 times in 10 minutes and each time we have to enter the code.

    I just bought and installed the 913 SmartCode Deadbolt. Everything works great, but the backlit keypad did not light up at night making it impossible to punch in the code. How do I get the backlit keypad to light up? Am I doing something wrong? - Mike D
