Customer-Focused Keyless Design Enhances Style and Convenience of Popular Door Locks

LAKE FOREST, Calif.– November 17, 2008 – Kwikset®, the leader in innovative door hardware, today launched its next generation keyless entry deadbolt - the SmartCode™ Signature Series. The result of more than 10 years of functional testing and consumer feedback, the new SmartCode Signature Series features a smaller and sleeker touchpad design, adding style to any door while completely eliminating the hassle of carrying or fumbling for keys. Additionally, the new brightly lit keypad provides safer, more convenient evening home access.

Customized Access and Easy Installation

SmartCode Signature Series allows consumers to create two unique access codes – one code to be used by residents and another code to be given out for temporary access. "Guests or workers requiring access should never compromise your home's security. SmartCode allows you to create a secondary code for temporary access, providing the option to quickly and easily change it to eliminate any risk of the code falling into the wrong hands,” continued Flaharty.
The next generation SmartCode Signature Series also is the only product in its category to feature a motorized deadbolt for convenient one-touch locking. Unlike other available deadbolts featuring an electronic keypad that make the lock "accessible” for locking or unlocking, SmartCode users enjoy true "one touch” locking because the motor moves the deadbolt, providing true user convenience. Unlocking the door is equally simple, with only input of the code required to move the lock, and no additional handle turning for true "one finger” door unlocking.
Additional convenience and security is provided through the system's automatic door locking feature that can be activated or deactivated by the homeowner. For further peace of mind, all SmartCode deadbolts are accessible with a key when needed as back-up.
In addition to user-friendly features that make it convenient to utilize, SmartCode Signature Series is quick and easy to install, and will seamlessly replace any existing deadbolt. It requires no hard wiring and is powered by four AA batteries with an expected one-year battery life. The stylish SmartCode Signature Series fits all standard doors without requiring new screw holes.

Next-Generation of SmartCode by Kwikset

The result of more than 10 years of designing and testing keyless entry systems, the next-generation SmartCode will feature a sleeker, cleaner look and brightly lit keypad to aid in accessing the home in the evenings. The next-generation SmartCode lets home and property owners create two unique access codes, ranging from four to eight digits. SmartCode can easily be engaged via the one-touch locking function, eliminating the need to fumble with keys. And like SmartScan, SmartCode does not require complicated wiring to install, relying on an innovative battery-powered design.

Because homes can be as individual and varied as the personalities of their owners, the entire Kwikset SmartSeries offers a wide array of the latest styles and finishes in handlesets, levers, knobs and deadbolts to match any home décor.

SmartKey™ Security Built-in

SmartCode Signature Series features Kwikset's SmartKey technology with BumpGuard™ protection as its key back-up. SmartKey utilizes a patented side-locking bar and passes the ANSI (American National Standards Institute) Grade 1 lock picking standard, UL 437, par. 11.6.
Furthermore, it provides consumers with the ability to re-key the locks themselves, in less than 30 seconds, without removing them from the door. Additionally, consumers can easily re-key their SmartCode Signature Series lock(s) to utilize the same key as their home's other Kwikset locks for one-key convenience.
