from Functions very well I recently purchased 2 of these SmartCode locks and installed one on my front door and one on a side door into the garage. The installation was pretty simple and straightforward on the door that previously had a dead bolt. The other door required preparation as it had not had a deadbolt. That was pretty simple also because I had the necessary tools and templates to prepare the door. The programming and rekeying of the locks was fairly simple, however, I cannot over emphasize the importance of following the instructions EXACTLY I enjoy the convenience of being able to lock and unlock the doors without a key. I highly recommend these locks..

from Great security for a home with kids I purchased this lock for my front door because of the automatic locking feature. my sons were always leaving the front door unlocked, our normal family area was on the other side of the house and anyone could enter. This lock has worked flawlessly for over three years. The other nice feature is the ability to set a second lock code for someone and then take it out when it is not needed. We set the code for a cleaning service on the day they are to clean and remove it afterwards. The installation was easy, read the instructions completely before installing!

from Best Lock Ever! My only regret is that I didn't replace my deadbolt years ago. It was easy to install and it is great to take the dog for a walk or go for a run without having to carry a key. No need to replace all of the locks or get anything rekeyed. It iwas easy to set this one to work with my existing key. When family comes in from out of town, you just set a code for them for the weekend and they can come and go without worrying about duplicate keys. Awesome!

from Great Lock, easy install Purchased this lock for front door to stop carrying keys going out for am walk. Happy to say the lock had excellent instructions and easy to install and program. Icing on the cake was "smartkey" inclusion which let me keep my old deadbolt key. Bought 2nd one for side door.

from Easy to Use We installed this to not have to use keys which we are always losing. It was also helpful so that our daughter could visit when we were out as long as she had the code. It has proven useful for many things including maintenance and our guest house where we added another.

from Looks great, works well for a while I bought this 6 months ago and installed it myself. It was relatively easty to install, moderately clear to program. It looks great and matches the Venetian bronze handle set and other door hardware in our house well. It is smaller interior footprint than other models. My only complain is that the batteries died after about 6 months ( 4 AA) which made the combination locking inoperable until I replaced them. This requires backing out 3 set screws, removing the interior cover, and pulling out the battery box. Hopefully the national brand batteries will last longer.

Is there something you have to turn on to make the back light on the keypad work

How well do the numbers hold up to wear on the buttons? I worry that they will degrade over time making it harder to use and possibly helping someone who's trying to break in know which numbers to try. Does the touch pad version hold up better?

Does this have a vacation mode or able to disable all but one code? I'm looking to use this for my in home daycare, but should we go away for the weekend I'd like our family code to be the only one useable.

You can complete a factory reset to delete all codes associated with the lock.Factory reset:1. Remove the battery pack.2. Press and HOLD the Program button while reinserting the battery pack. Keep holding the button for 30 seconds until the lock beeps and the status LED flashes red.3. Press the Program button once more. In 20 seconds, when the LED flashes green and you hear one beep, the lock has been reset.4. Perform the door handing process again to teach the lock the orientation of the door and add user codes to your lock.Handing:1. Press and HOLD the Lock button while installing battery pack.2. Hold button until the latch bolt starts moving on its own.3. Did the latch bolt retract and extend on its own when the battery pack was installed?4. If yes, the door handing process was successful. Hello Rocker,Thank you for your interest in the SmartCode 913 Deadbolt in Lifetime Polished Brass, Model# 913TRL L03 UL. Using a Mastercode is an optional, added-security measure. It is a code the user sets. To add a Mastercode please:1. Keep the door open. Press and HOLD the Program button until the keypad flashes green (about 5 seconds).2. Enter new Mastercode.3. Press Lock button once.4. Re-enter Mastercode.5. Press Lock button once.If programming is successful, the keypad will flash green once with one beep. If programming is unsuccessful, the keypad will flash red three times with three beeps. Make sure the Mastercode has not already been programmed. Attempt the procedure again, making sure to enter the same new Mastercode in step 2 and 4.6. Make sure switch #3 is on, and press the Program button once.
