    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functions very well I recently purchased 2 of these SmartCode locks and installed one on my front door and one on a side door into the garage. The installation was pretty simple and straightforward on the door that previously had a dead bolt. The other door required preparation as it had not had a deadbolt. That was pretty simple also because I had the necessary tools and templates to prepare the door. The programming and rekeying of the locks was fairly simple, however, I cannot over emphasize the importance of following the instructions EXACTLY I enjoy the convenience of being able to lock and unlock the doors without a key. I highly recommend these locks..

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great security for a home with kids I purchased this lock for my front door because of the automatic locking feature. my sons were always leaving the front door unlocked, our normal family area was on the other side of the house and anyone could enter. This lock has worked flawlessly for over three years. The other nice feature is the ability to set a second lock code for someone and then take it out when it is not needed. We set the code for a cleaning service on the day they are to clean and remove it afterwards. The installation was easy, read the instructions completely before installing!

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Lock Ever! My only regret is that I didn't replace my deadbolt years ago. It was easy to install and it is great to take the dog for a walk or go for a run without having to carry a key. No need to replace all of the locks or get anything rekeyed. It iwas easy to set this one to work with my existing key. When family comes in from out of town, you just set a code for them for the weekend and they can come and go without worrying about duplicate keys. Awesome!

Happy to say the lock had excellent instructions and easy to install and program. Icing on the cake was "smartkey" inclusion which let me keep my old deadbolt key. Bought 2nd one for side door.

It was also helpful so that our daughter could visit when we were out as long as she had the code. It has proven useful for many things including maintenance and our guest house where we added another.

    Rated 2 out of 5 by from Incomplete installation instructions I purchased this product to install in my home's front door. The home is 34 years old and the current front door lock does not have a bolt with a flange and 2 screws. The instructions show both types of bolts but only the flanged bolt is provided and there is no instructions within the packaging about what to do. I finally found on the Kwikset website that I am supposed to contact Kwikset (only normal office hours and not weekends or nights) and ask for this bolt. If it is not sent free to me then I will take the item back and buy something else. I think the outside of the box should indicate that the other bolt will have to be obtained later and is not inside the box.

    The lock worked until I removed the panel to delete the test code the installer programmed. I reprogrammed it and it took the code, but now the lock is clicking and seems to stuck. What did I touch that made it not work?

    Is it possible to rekey without the original key? I just installed it last night, but realized it was an "open box" return to a store, and they didn't packaged the original keys. Any suggestions on how to rekey the lock?

    Hello mixer,You must have a functioning key to rekey any SmartKey lock. Your local home improvement store may rekey the lock for you using a resetting cradle. This device will allow the cylinder to be re-keyed without the use of the functioning key.Thank you,Kwikset Support
