  • Rated 5 out of 5 by from Functions very well I recently purchased 2 of these SmartCode locks and installed one on my front door and one on a side door into the garage. The installation was pretty simple and straightforward on the door that previously had a dead bolt. The other door required preparation as it had not had a deadbolt. That was pretty simple also because I had the necessary tools and templates to prepare the door. The programming and rekeying of the locks was fairly simple, however, I cannot over emphasize the importance of following the instructions EXACTLY I enjoy the convenience of being able to lock and unlock the doors without a key. I highly recommend these locks..

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great, works well for a while I bought this 6 months ago and installed it myself. It was relatively easty to install, moderately clear to program. It looks great and matches the Venetian bronze handle set and other door hardware in our house well. It is smaller interior footprint than other models. My only complain is that the batteries died after about 6 months ( 4 AA) which made the combination locking inoperable until I replaced them. This requires backing out 3 set screws, removing the interior cover, and pulling out the battery box. Hopefully the national brand batteries will last longer.

    Rated 2 out of 5 by from Incomplete installation instructions I purchased this product to install in my home's front door. The home is 34 years old and the current front door lock does not have a bolt with a flange and 2 screws. The instructions show both types of bolts but only the flanged bolt is provided and there is no instructions within the packaging about what to do. I finally found on the Kwikset website that I am supposed to contact Kwikset (only normal office hours and not weekends or nights) and ask for this bolt. If it is not sent free to me then I will take the item back and buy something else. I think the outside of the box should indicate that the other bolt will have to be obtained later and is not inside the box.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just what every home should have as a standard! Our builder provided a standard lock with keys for the main entrance. We tend to often use the entrance through the garage and one day while at work, the wife managed to lock herself out. She ended up walking 2 miles to pick up our spare keys and I didn't want that to happen again. So, I bought the Kwikset - Smartcode 913 and installation as well as reprogramming the deadbolt to use our existing keys was a breeze. I've had this deadbolt for about 6 months now and can't be happier. I love that it automatically locks itself in 30 seconds and the ability to set codes for visitors. Overall, it is a great buy and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a similar product.

    Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor quality control Halfway through install I realized that the turnpeice shaft on the interior assembly had been put in upside down in the factory, meaning that the lock could not be installed. Right now my opinion of quickset products is pretty low but I am really interested to see how they handle replacement of the defective part. As long as they fix the issue I think the lock should work out well, but I have to wait and see (plus its pretty aggravating taking out the old lock, putting in half of the new lock, and then having to put the old lock right back in)

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great security for a home with kids I purchased this lock for my front door because of the automatic locking feature. my sons were always leaving the front door unlocked, our normal family area was on the other side of the house and anyone could enter. This lock has worked flawlessly for over three years. The other nice feature is the ability to set a second lock code for someone and then take it out when it is not needed. We set the code for a cleaning service on the day they are to clean and remove it afterwards. The installation was easy, read the instructions completely before installing!

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Shocked at how easy it is! I bought this unit while it was on sale to see how it would work. To be honest, I don't know if I would have purchased it if it wasn't on sale. I got it home and installed it on our dark oak front door. It was a breeze to install and I was very shocked at how simple it was to program. Everyone at our home (4 of us) has easy access to enter the house without having to fumble for keys in the dark (it lights up at night!). I actually went back and bought more even after the sale was over and put them on other doors and on my rental house! Excellent product!

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Looks great. Seems to work well...... The lock arrived this afternoon, and I installed this evening. Installation would have gone much easier if they had included instructions in ENGLISH! The instruction sheet had steps 1 and 2 in English, the balance in Spanish! Thank goodness for the online instructions! Once installed, seems to work well. The only issue is (and I have seen this in other reviews) the keypad does NOT light up. Makes it a bit more difficult in the dark. Overall, though, it's a solid product. Have now done the re-key yet, but I hope it works well!

  • Why does it beep and flash a green light? This is a new issue after owning it for a year. I've confirmed it wasn't the batteries, and it wouldn't operate while this was happening. After a while, it stopped and was working again.

    The interior turnpiece shaft cannot rotate to the proper position (upright triangle) when connecting the interior assembly with the exterior keypad.

    After installing 3 kwickset deadbolts, 4th one gives new problem codes work in reverse hit lock button unlocks door. Can't seem to program new codes after hitting reset

    Why wouldn't my key pad light up up on my 913 door lock

    I want to replace my existing Kwikset deadbolt with your 913TRL L03. My door dimensions are correct to install the 913. Will I have to drill any new holes, replace the strikeplate, etc.? Also, do I have to re-key it (I want it touch only)?

    Hi Bob29, In most cases, if you currently have a Kwikset deadbolt you shouldn't have to drill any extra holes or change the strike plate unless it is visibly different other than the finish. The lockset doesn't have to be re-keyed. The touchpad is a great feature but it is recommended that you always carry the key with you at all times like on your car key ring as a backup just in case the batteries run out you will still be able to access it.
