from Poor quality control Halfway through install I realized that the turnpeice shaft on the interior assembly had been put in upside down in the factory, meaning that the lock could not be installed. Right now my opinion of quickset products is pretty low but I am really interested to see how they handle replacement of the defective part. As long as they fix the issue I think the lock should work out well, but I have to wait and see (plus its pretty aggravating taking out the old lock, putting in half of the new lock, and then having to put the old lock right back in)

from Realistic The electronic lock comes into its own when it is necessary to give temporary access to numerous people. Access can be given by setting a code and the access can be removed by cancelling the code. It is as simple as that.The advantage of this lock is that it accepts codes that can be as long as eight digits. The longer the code the more difficult it is to break it. A six-digit code will take 100 times longer to break than a four-digit code. It also allows 16 different codes to be operable at the same time. This may be necessary if a large number of people need access.The disadvantage of this lock is that to change a code one has to unscrew two screws to remove the cover to gain access to the mechanism. This becomes an issue when one needs to change the code on a daily basis, say as when one has to give access to different guests who arrive on a daily basis.I would recommend this lock for personal use with an occasional need to change the code. I would be more reluctant to recommend it for use in a situation where the code needs to be changed regularly.

from Great addition to our home security. We have had this product for about 6 months and are very happy with it. Our old door lock was also Kwikset, and it was very convenient to rekey this deadbolt to fit our existing keys.Our pool service needs entry through this door to service my pool weekly. I asked him for a code he would remember and punched that in for him. If we ever change pool services, it will be easy to delete that code.It is also very convenient for family and guests who now do not need a key to enter the house.

from Feel Safe!! We bought the SmartCode 913 for our front door with the door handle set. It looks so elegant and stylish. We got the Venetian Bronze which perfectly matches all the trim in our home! We loved not have to deal with keys so we went out and bought a second one for the back door. It comes with back up keys also. We have had them for 2 years now and only replaced the batteries once! We can change the code anytime we want! Great product!

from Programming is horrible I purchased this lock 2 days ago. followed the instructions and still am unable to set up a code to unlock the door. I press the button on the inside part of the door then enter the code I want to set and before I get to the 2nd number the lock beeps 3 times telling me something is wrong. The materials say to call in the event of a problem but there is only someone available 6:30 am to 4 pm PT

from Looks great, works well for a while I bought this 6 months ago and installed it myself. It was relatively easty to install, moderately clear to program. It looks great and matches the Venetian bronze handle set and other door hardware in our house well. It is smaller interior footprint than other models. My only complain is that the batteries died after about 6 months ( 4 AA) which made the combination locking inoperable until I replaced them. This requires backing out 3 set screws, removing the interior cover, and pulling out the battery box. Hopefully the national brand batteries will last longer.

I would like to hear an alarm sound if someone incorrectly inputs a code 3 different times. I have the 913 model on 2 different doors and I am having the same issue with both deadbolts. NO ALARM SOUND AFTER 3 DIFFERENT INCORRECT INPUTS.. PLZ HELP!

Can I add Zwave to this after purchasing? We manage a lot of vacation rentals and one of our owners has a smartcode 913 and we would like to upgrade it to Zwave so we can program it remotely.

What are differences between Kwikset smart door lock model 914 vs 913 (older model)?

Can I use this lock on an outside door. Will it hold up to the elements? If not, would you please recommend another lock.

The interior for a SmartCode is not designed for exterior use and should be under cover and needs to be protected from the elements. My existing deadbolt has a 5in backset. Can I install this lock over the existing deadbolt latch? If not, can I replace the existing latch with the Kwikset 82730 latch for use with this lock? If not, do you sell a similar lock that supports a 5in backset?
