from Poor quality control Halfway through install I realized that the turnpeice shaft on the interior assembly had been put in upside down in the factory, meaning that the lock could not be installed. Right now my opinion of quickset products is pretty low but I am really interested to see how they handle replacement of the defective part. As long as they fix the issue I think the lock should work out well, but I have to wait and see (plus its pretty aggravating taking out the old lock, putting in half of the new lock, and then having to put the old lock right back in)

from Feel Safe!! We bought the SmartCode 913 for our front door with the door handle set. It looks so elegant and stylish. We got the Venetian Bronze which perfectly matches all the trim in our home! We loved not have to deal with keys so we went out and bought a second one for the back door. It comes with back up keys also. We have had them for 2 years now and only replaced the batteries once! We can change the code anytime we want! Great product!

from Looks great, works well for a while I bought this 6 months ago and installed it myself. It was relatively easty to install, moderately clear to program. It looks great and matches the Venetian bronze handle set and other door hardware in our house well. It is smaller interior footprint than other models. My only complain is that the batteries died after about 6 months ( 4 AA) which made the combination locking inoperable until I replaced them. This requires backing out 3 set screws, removing the interior cover, and pulling out the battery box. Hopefully the national brand batteries will last longer.

from Functions very well I recently purchased 2 of these SmartCode locks and installed one on my front door and one on a side door into the garage. The installation was pretty simple and straightforward on the door that previously had a dead bolt. The other door required preparation as it had not had a deadbolt. That was pretty simple also because I had the necessary tools and templates to prepare the door. The programming and rekeying of the locks was fairly simple, however, I cannot over emphasize the importance of following the instructions EXACTLY I enjoy the convenience of being able to lock and unlock the doors without a key. I highly recommend these locks..

from Incomplete installation instructions I purchased this product to install in my home's front door. The home is 34 years old and the current front door lock does not have a bolt with a flange and 2 screws. The instructions show both types of bolts but only the flanged bolt is provided and there is no instructions within the packaging about what to do. I finally found on the Kwikset website that I am supposed to contact Kwikset (only normal office hours and not weekends or nights) and ask for this bolt. If it is not sent free to me then I will take the item back and buy something else. I think the outside of the box should indicate that the other bolt will have to be obtained later and is not inside the box.

from Just what every home should have as a standard! Our builder provided a standard lock with keys for the main entrance. We tend to often use the entrance through the garage and one day while at work, the wife managed to lock herself out. She ended up walking 2 miles to pick up our spare keys and I didn't want that to happen again. So, I bought the Kwikset - Smartcode 913 and installation as well as reprogramming the deadbolt to use our existing keys was a breeze. I've had this deadbolt for about 6 months now and can't be happier. I love that it automatically locks itself in 30 seconds and the ability to set codes for visitors. Overall, it is a great buy and I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a similar product.

from Great security for a home with kids I purchased this lock for my front door because of the automatic locking feature. my sons were always leaving the front door unlocked, our normal family area was on the other side of the house and anyone could enter. This lock has worked flawlessly for over three years. The other nice feature is the ability to set a second lock code for someone and then take it out when it is not needed. We set the code for a cleaning service on the day they are to clean and remove it afterwards. The installation was easy, read the instructions completely before installing!

The lock worked until I removed the panel to delete the test code the installer programmed. I reprogrammed it and it took the code, but now the lock is clicking and seems to stuck. What did I touch that made it not work?

Is it possible to rekey without the original key? I just installed it last night, but realized it was an "open box" return to a store, and they didn't packaged the original keys. Any suggestions on how to rekey the lock?
