from Lock DOES NOT LAST This door lock came with my house when it was built. It was installed on the garage door for convenience. First, it wouldn't open from time to time. I would enter the code, then I would have to walk out the garage, to the front door then go in and jiggle the lock to get it to work again. Then one day, I open the door and the hole where you insert the key just falls out!!! Really? It just fell out... This is supposed to PROTECT my home and my family, FAIL!!! I have no idea how to fix this thing, I tried, my neighbor tried, no one could get the thing to stay back in. So now I have a doornob with no keyhole, BUT the keypad still opens the door... sometimes. I can't afford to replace it because it costs $200 for this piece of junk... NOT satisfied!

from Very reliable I have owned this lockset for almost two years. I have changed the batteries just once. It uses the SmartKey re-key technology as a quick and easy way to rekey the lockset without replacing the cylinder. The outside levers can be locked or unlocked by key or by using the keypad. I also like that I can turn features on and off using the dip switches to conserve battery life. The Z-wave enables me to unlock and lock using my Android phone (It requires the Mi Casa Verde VeraLite Home Controller). I am glad I purchased this lockset because of the form, function and security features. Note: All of my entry locks are Kwikset SmartKey, so I can rekey and I like the BumpGuard to prevent lock bumping.

from Works well but the handle gets loose after a while Installed this lever in July 2012 and adding this to my z-wave network was easy. I love the convenience of not having to use my keys (I still carry them though in case of emergencies). I've also programmed this lever to lock automatically in the middle of the night. What I don't like is that the lever itself gets loose over time and maybe a spring in the lock gets loose which makes it difficult to unlock without turning the lever in a certain way. This is a minor problem when unlocking the handle manually but unreliable when trying to unlock wirelessly.

from Kwikset SmartCode Z-Wave - Great with SmartThings! Model: 912TNL TRL ZW 15 SMTFunction: Smartcode Lever with Z-WaveThis was a very simple installation in our vacation home and easily integrates with the SmartThings home automation system. While the standard SmartThings door lock app ('thing') only had basic lock/unlock functions, in their support community it was easy to find a custom plugin that allowed programming of the 30 user slots with TXT/SMS and smart phone push notifications. If heightened security is your goal, the deadbolt product will offer greater difficulty to physically bypass over a level/door latch model such as this one; that said, this product is perfect for secured ease of access and can be complimented with a secondary lock mechanism for even greater security. The SmartKey feature is very useful for re-keying to any existing, custom or new, compatible key insert for changing who has physical access in addition to the electronic key pad.Great product and reliable! Purchasing more for my other locations, highly recommend!

from Frustrations on so many levels. I purchased this product for its zwave and smart key features. Little did I know it would eat batteries, be inconsistent with connection and the smart rekeying feature would not work. $200 paperweight.

from simply works.. We used to forget locking our our Garage door leading to the house..Installed one of these locks (took me less than 15 min) and paired it with our Alarm panel (2Gig) over ZWave. Now all of us at home can use our Alarm PINs to unlock the door, super convenient.. Best $100 spent and it auto locks the door after 15 seconds...We also get an alert who opened the door and at what time and automate turning the lights on when the door is unlocked ..

from Beautiful, high quality, and easy to install I purchased my first one as part of a home security package and got both the deadbolt for the front door and a couple for inside. I liked them so much I purchased a few more and I installed them myself, no issues, no problems, literally 5 minutes! super easy, super simple and the customer service is right there on the spot if you need them. Awesome and beautiful product. Very high quality look and finish.

from Love the zwave but quality so-so I've used this lock with several different zwave hubs and it works great. Unfortunately, the inside locking mechanism failed after a year or so. KwikSet did replace under warranty. As others have noted, the lever gets loose and in my case, the whole unit tends to loosen as well. Mostly just an annoyance but I wonder if the lever will last long term.Otherwise, I love the functionality.

How can I get my hands on a replacement cylinder for this? I messed up the smart key, took it apart and lost the cylinder. Is there a part number I can search for?
Hello RIK,Thank you for your interest in Kwikset model # 912TNL-TRL-ZW-15-SMT. The key must have the ability to turn to replace the cylinder. If the key can not turn in the lock the cylinder can not be removed. A new unit may have to be purchased. You may contact Kwikset residential access consumer support for further assistance in replacing the cylinder at 1-866-863-6584.Thank you,Kwikset Support Team

What is the difference between Z-wave and Zigbee? not sure what lock to purchase.
Hello Abrock,Thank you for your interest in Kwikset model # 912TNL-TRL-ZW-11P-SMT. Zigbee and Zwave are simply just two different frequencies in which home automation systems use to transmit commands wirelessly. Some home automation systems use Zigbee, others use Zwave, so we manufacture both to accommodate our customers. Any subscriptions would be through the home automation system, not through our lock, it would be best to contact the home automation system you have in mind for purchasing and subscription information. Thank you,Kwikset Support Team

Hello Kwikset,A client bought 3 of your locks but without the zigbee module inside. Where can i buy these modules in order to integrate with Control4.Thanks
Hello FernandoECU,Thank you for your interest in Kwikset model # 912TNL-TRL-ZBC4-15-SMT. You would need to purchase either a Zigbee home automation system and the Smart Code with Zigbee from either Control 4 (control4.com) or HAI. Or you would need to purchase a Z-Wave home automation system (GE Security, Honeywell, 2Gig, DMP, ELK, Home Seer, HAI or Vera) and the Smart Code with Z-Wave from a home automation or home security dealer.Smartcode z-wave and zigbee door locks are not connected via internet and are not Wi-Fi enabled devices. Smartcode locks are equipped with z-wave or zigbee technology. In order for a z-wave or zigbee device to work, they need to be paired to a z-wave or zigbee controller. The controller is the main gateway to control all your z-wave or zigbee devices that are enrolled to the wireless mesh. Some controllers work off your existing router via an Ethernet cable while others work through GSM radio (like cellular phones). You need to research different controllers in the market and find which one best suits your needs.Thank you,Kwikset Support Team

As a Sabbath observing Jew we abstain from using electricity as a part of the observance.I'd like to know if the mechanism of opening the door with this lever using a key, without using code, would trigger any electric signal or is it purely mechanical?
Hello Alex V,Thank you for your interest in Kwikset model # 912TNL-TRL-ZW-11P-SMT. It is suggested to remove the batteries to be sure there is no electrical current running through the unit.Thank you,Kwikset Support Team
