Kwikset® Locks Up 60 Years as an
Industry Leader of Secure Door Hardware
Lake Forest, CA – January 2006 – This year Kwikset® celebrates
its 60th Anniversary and the revolutionary residential lock design that launched
the company in 1946. Created by entrepreneurs Adolf Schoepe and Karl Rhinehart,
the innovative “tubular” lock was named Kwikset to reflect its speedy
installation. This design was the first in a series of trend-setting and
award-winning hardware designs that changed the face of the home security
industry.
Ten years after the company’s inception, Kwikset became the number one
manufacturer of residential locksets – a designation it has never relinquished.
In 1958, Kwikset introduced its now legendary “K” key design, and its innovative
plastic coatings for brass- and bronze-finished locksets. Kwikset then developed
and released Kwik-Install® in 2002, which made installation easy and virtually
flawless with pre-installed screws. That same year, Kwikset reorganized its
product offering into three new brands: Kwikset Security®, Kwikset Maximum
Security® and Kwikset UltraMax® Signatures. Continuing to provide quality door
hardware for consumers and home builders, Kwikset introduced the electronic
touchpad deadbolt, the Powerbolt® 1000, in 2004.
“As we enter our sixth decade, Kwikset is partnering with Price Pfister to
create our new Architecturally Inspired Collections,” says Jimmy Pendley, Vice
President and General Manager, Kwikset. “These new collections consist of newly
designed faucets, shower heads, bathroom accessories, and door hardware that
feature complimentary styles and distinctive matching finishes.” There’s hardly
a door that Kwikset can’t make more attractive or more secure. For 60 years
Kwikset has meant security and peace of mind for millions of families. No wonder
more people trust their doors, inside and out, to the beauty and strength of
Kwikset.
